College Counseling
As students enter the Upper School, school-family communications increasingly focus on college admissions. Our college counselor emphasizes the importance of a rigorous course load combined with balanced and serious participation in extracurricular activities. The college counselor assists students and families as they navigate the many issues of the college search, opening up a wide array of college options for students as they move on from Green Fields.
Families begin formal meetings with the college counselor during the second semester of their junior year to plan a college search appropriate to each student's academic aspirations and extracurricular interest. The importance of a harmonious relationship between the personality of the student and the personality of a given institution is stressed. In meetings, families discuss standardized testing, the early decision option and the essay component of the application, teacher recommendations, the interview and financial aid process.
Each fall Green Fields hosts over 40 colleges from around the nation where juniors and seniors can meet with admissions officers and discuss the schools they represent. (Sophomores are also encouraged to attend a small number of meetings.) Throughout the college search and selection process the college counselor is available to meet with students and parents to discuss each applicant's individual process.
