Our Campus
Green Fields Country Day School is situated on a historic 22-acre campus where today's students enjoy the facilities of a $3.5 million physical plant, including the Dowling Library which houses nearly 6,000 volumes and is equipped with Internet access and a college resource room. The room houses brochures, guide books, videos, information guides and a search program designed to help students find a college that meets their needs.
The computer lab hosts media and journalism classes, and our student-led publications the Voice (the student newspaper), Gorefox (yearbook) and Prism (literary magazine). Our elementary classrooms have a network of colorful iMacs that are integral to that innovative program.
Green Fields also has a number of athletic facilities including a gymnasium, with a weight room, lockers and showers, separate baseball and softball fields, a soccer field, a track, a pool and a set of tennis courts in addition to a set of outdoor basketball courts. The Science Department is equipped with biology and physics labs with a variety of software designed to enhance the learning process.

The Fine Arts Department has two facilities: the Edythe Chernstrom Dowling Center for the Performing Arts, which houses an auditorium, dressing rooms and a music room; and the Art Dome. The dome was built by students in the 1970's and is the visual arts center for the school.
Students & Teachers
The average class size of 14 helps teachers to monitor students' individual progress. Every Green Fields student has a faculty advisor. Each week students meet with their advisors for an informal discussion. Additionally, advisors are always available to meet with students individually. Also, the Principal may arrange conferences throughout the year with teachers and families when necessary.

College Guidance
As students enter the Senior Division, school-family communications increasingly focus on college admissions. Our college counselor emphasizes the importance of a rigorous course load combined with balanced and serious participation in extracurricular activities. The college counselor assists students and families as they navigate the many issues of the college search, opening a wide variety of college options for students as they move from Green Fields. Families begin formal meetings with the college counselor during the second semester of their junior year to plan a college search appropriate to each student's academic aspirations and extracurricular interest. The importance of a harmonious relationship between the personality of the student and the personality of a given institution is stressed. In meetings, families discuss standardized testing, the early decision option and the essay component of the application, teacher recommendations, the interview and financial aid process. Each fall Green Fields hosts over 40 colleges from around the nation where juniors and seniors can meet with admissions officers and discuss the schools they represent (sophmores are also encouraged to attend a small number of meetings). Throughout the college search and selection process the college counselor is available to meet with students and parents to discuss each applicant's individual process.
